LIDOtips - Five Tips For Working From Home
It’s safe to say that this time last year none of us could ever have imagined that we would be where we are today.
We all used to think how amazing it would be to work from home and how tidy our homes would suddenly be (didn’t happen!), and just how happy it would make us. Turns out that the reality isn’t always that rosy.
As a lot of us are now in our second lockdown, or simply continuing to work from home, we thought we would share our top five tips for working from home.
Set boundaries
Just because you no longer have commute time, or a reason to be out and about, does not mean that you should be available all the time. Even at the office we get breaks, so there’s no reason that that shouldn’t be the case in your home office too.Schedule and stick to it
We have been using a planner (school throwback!), and at the start of the week writing in personal appointments, workouts and lunch breaks. Fit your work around what is, and what would have been before, non-negotiable. Having a visual can be very helpful with the aforementioned setting of boundaries.Create a space you want to be in
Set out one place from where to work from and stick to it. If you can put everything into a drawer or cupboard at the end of the day do that, so that you don’t feel like your work is omnipresent.
Add some new prints to your walls to brighten your space. Consider also getting some plants, as they will clean the air for you, absorbing toxins and producing oxygen. It is also said that being around plants helps to sharpen concentration and boost productivity and creativity!Batch cooking and healthy snacking
To take the stress out of your week, plan ahead. If you can, set aside time at the weekend to cook some meals that you can pop in the freezer. This will help you to avoid reaching for an easy but unhealthy option. While we are all less mobile, we need to make conscious decisions that will benefit our health in the long run. This goes for snacking too: prepare what you will be reaching for! We’ll bring you some ideas for this in the coming days.Socialize
We may be stuck at home, but there’s no reason that we can’t have drinks (try our Fizzy Fall Kick or our Gin Basil Lemonade) or dinners remotely. Getting “together”, and seeing each other makes such a difference to our morale and brings a sense of normalcy, in what is a very abnormal time in our lives.
Some of these might seem obvious, but sometimes we just need a reminder and gentle push to put things into action. Share with us what has been working for you! This year is hard, but if we all support each other, we can come out of this stronger.
