LIDOtips - Cinnamon
Cinnamon is so much more than a tasty sprinkle or shot to add to your holiday drinks!
Sure it smells good and evokes hundreds of fall and winter memories, but it can also do so much good for our bodies.
Cinnamon has one of the highest concentrations of antioxidants, such as polyphenols (great for digestion, weight management and diabetes). In this respect, it is even more potent than garlic, which is saying something! It is also an extremely powerful anti-inflammatory aid, which we all need to be mindful of in these winter months.
It can also be very beneficial in cases of insulin resistance and can also lower blood sugar levels.
Cinnamon has been shown to have a key component that helps fight off bacterial and fungal infections. More research is being carried out in this field all the time.
There are a whole host of diseases that are thought could benefit from the use of cinnamon, and research is ongoing.
Next time you sprinkle some of this deliciously healthy spice on an apple or banana, just remember that your body will be thanking you for it! However, be sure to be using Ceylon cinnamon, which is also known as “true cinnamon”. The other type is of the Cassia variety, which is high in coumarin, and can be harmful in high doses.
