Mulled Wine
Also thought as winter in a cup, mulled wine is a great drink for a frosty evening. Unlike traditional wine, this one is served warm, in a mug and features lots of delicious spices. Quick! Get your pot cooking and enjoy a nice cup of this flavorful winter treat!
Ingredients (serves 4)
One bottle (75cl) of a good and young red wine: bordeaux, burgundy or pinot noir
4cl water
120-140g sugar (depending on the acidity of the wine and personal taste)
3 star anise
5 cloves
3 cinnamon sticks + 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
4 cinnamon sticks for serving (optional)
1/2 orange and 1/2 lemon cut in quarters
4 orange slices for serving (optional)
Method
Combine the water, sugar and spices in a large saucepan and warm on medium heat for 4-5min (the mix shouldn't start to burn)
Add the wine and the fruits, and bring to a simmer over the same heat for 20 minutes
Filter, then serve hot with a fresh orange slice and a cinnamon stick
