Jehanne Sacco - Swimwear Brand Co-Founder

Nomad Tribe Swim, “Your Body, Your Rules”!

Nomad at heart, Jehanne Sacco, co-founder of the brand, takes us through her tribe’s universe.

How did you come to do what you do?

It’s pretty simple! I was in Bali with my family, and my sister wanted to start a project together with me. After a “not so long” brainstorming session, we decided to launch a swimsuit brand. Here’s a little secret, we started doing swimsuits for ourselves because we couldn’t find anything on the market that would fit us! We are both mothers and we weren’t in our best shape back in the days! The brand name was chosen by our mother during a facetime call (she was in Switzerland). She just dropped this dope name spontaneously. It was defining us perfectly - Our tribe is our family, and we are all nomads. So obviously, we were going to keep it!

What's the most exciting part of your job?

The freedom. This feeling you get when you realize what you have achieved. The proudness (yet, always humble) when you have positive feedback and when you understand that you’re doing something great. All of it is really exciting! On the practical side of things, it is obviously super thrilling to create. I love to develop our pieces and follow their journey from sketch to product. This process is incredible! Otherwise, I really enjoy producing our content and challenging myself to level up our brand image. It’s a very crucial and complicated aspect of the business and I’m not always good at it. However, it’s fantastic to work with photographers, videographers, make-up artists, stylists, etc. and see our products come to life while under the spotlight. It's at this precise moment that you understand the value of your hard work. Makes me always just feel happy and emotional. I’ve cried once watching the outcome of one of our campaigns. I was so proud of our team and of the amazing work they had done.

What challenges do you usually encounter?

In my personal life, developing my brand while raising my son. My mother helps me a lot, but we aren’t living in the same city. This means I have to take care of him on my own, and sometimes I really feel alone. Sometimes, you just need a glass of anything containing over 14% alcohol, and a good chat with a friend! In my professional life, I would say that the challenge is to be constantly learning. I didn’t follow a design program; I studied Fashion Business (at the Marangoni Fashion Institute) before the new digital era. I think I’m still very old school and keeping myself updated with the digital aspect of things can be exhausting! The fashion industry has changed a lot, even if there are still some old, anchored codes to follow. I’ve learnt everything I know today in the field; it has been a long path and it’s not over at all!

What's your typical day like?

In my Balinese and Italian routines, waking up early is mandatory! When I’m in Bali, I like to work out and be ready around 8 A.M.. Then, we can start meeting with our producer, checking samples or production status. Go check out our suppliers’ new fabrics. Scout locations for shootings, or research for different necessities. Business days finish around 4 or 5 P.M. there, so you better start early! When in Italy, I bring my son to school on the other side of the city! Then I come back home and sit in front of my computer, have zoom calls either with my team in Bali or in Switzerland! The creative and design takes a big chunk of my days as well; and so do the various meetings I have booked every week - with the press office or the showroom, for example. It really depends on each of the project phases. As we are still a small team, we need to be very flexible and follow all aspects of the brand from beginning to end. That means, from the production progress to Instagram activities, and from business admin to customer service. Basically, with my mother, we are managing our entire company’s operations.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Inspiration can come from different things. It really depends on where you are and the mood you are in. The people surrounding you and basically of what you are living at this very moment. I can’t say I have a muse or one unique source of inspiration. A concept can come from a conversation I can have with my mother, my boyfriend or even with myself. Music is also a big part of this process. It sets me in a complete singular mood and helps me visualize things in their global form. I can’t explore all my ideas because I’m still a bit limited as we are a small company; but I have to be patient and let the tree grow to see the apples appear! A brand needs years to find its power and uniqueness. I believe that we must go through explorations and tests in order to bloom. To understand the market, the target, what we want to do and where we want to go.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

My spare time is never really a spare time but let’s say I enjoy spending time with my family, my boyfriend and my friends. I’m really outgoing (with my inner circle) and spending time with them is priceless. I love to travel, discover new cultures, experience new things, have a good dinner, enjoy the small things that life gives us - and that, we all understood with the pandemic, really matters.

What’s your go to track or album at the moment?

I’m a very eclectic person and my playlists are limitless … Spotify creates very cool weekly selections for me, which constantly makes me discover new artists! Also, my entourage is really into music, so I’m always exposed to new things. I currently haven’t got a go to track, but right now I’m listening to Arena by Teho - this guy is fantastic!
