Postcard From... Lyon
Part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage, the charming city of Lyon may not be as popular as her sister-town, Paris, but holds however some fun facts that will make you want to escape there, even if it's just for a few days...
For instance, did you know that Lyon is considered the capital of gastronomy? With 17 Michelin-starred restaurants, the foody in you will not be disappointed!
Also, cinema enthusiasts will love to know that Lyon is the birthplace of cinema. Indeed, motion pictures were created in 1895 in Lyon, by the Lumière Brothers. You can even retrace the history of film at the Institut Lumière, in Montplaisir!
Later, in the 60's, the city of Lyon became the pioneer in illumination, as shops started to enter shop-window illumination competitionsat the start of the Christmas season. This tradition is still alive today thankd to the Festival of lights. Showcased in a different, more modern way, it is held every year in December.
Finally, Lyon and its region marked the childhood of many of us as it was the birthplace of the famous Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the author of the legendary book, Le Petit Prince.
